Chances are you struggle (like I do) with finding good keywords. I can find keywords all day long. I have a problem finding good ones.
When I used Google’s keyword tool I trusted the results 100%. Why wouldn’t I? Big company like that shouldn’t be giving false figures. Well, that’s not always the case.
The results you see are not always correct, far from it. But it probably was at the time they put it together. I discovered the answer almost by pure chance.
I homed in on a key phrase with roughly 5000 competing websites. I was pretty confident I could get a result from that. I started banging articles out left right and centre. Hundreds in fact.
It didn’t take long to notice there were now over 9000 competing sites. I was shocked at this huge difference. Looked like it was going to be hard work. A bit more investigating turned up my own articles on loads of these new competing sites.
My point being is that I’d have swerved this keyword if I had seen nine thousand competitors. An awful lot of these new sites were showing my article, thus I was my own competitor. A good result all round in my opinion.
Anyway, I decided to give a keyword research service a try as I couldn’t count on getting lucky every time. My hope was to get some ‘killer’ keywords delivered by email every day. I had figured that the daily cost against how much work I would save is value for my money.
There were a few to choose from but I went with Travis Sago and his Instacash service. After all, he’s the king of the bum marketers. Bum marketing only costs my time so it’s my kind of marketing.
If I can get a keyword or two in my in box each day then that saves me valuable time. At least a two hour saving. If I can save two hours work each day that’s something I’ll grab with both hands. If I weigh the cost each day against my two hours work it clearly becomes value for money.
I get a lot of emails from gurus banging on about outsourcing. I see this as an outsourcing project. I’m outsourcing my keyword research to a professional service.
