Even in today’s technology driven world, word of mouth marketing is a very powerful way to get tons of new customers to your business. The operative action behind word of mouth, or any other type of marketing campaign for that matter, is straightforward – you reward the customer who brings you clients. What makes this kind of marketing so effective? Just take a look.

People love to get an incentive for their actions. People really like to get recognized for what they do as well. Combine these couple of things together and you have got an excellent incentive for a word of mouth campaign. In such a marketing campaign, you can reward people who give you new business in two ways.

1.You would give them an incentive. This could be anything – from gift certificates to money to service credits.

2.You acknowledge them for their great effort. You can mention their names and thank them for their efforts in your newsletters and business magazines.

These couple of things can make people very happy and appreciated – happy to get something useful and appreciative that their effort has been successful.

Here are some very useful tips to help you initiate your word of mouth marketing campaign the right way.

1.Any incentive that you give should be useful for the consumer. Cash is the most popular choice, but some people may feel uncomfortable with monetary rewards. In my opinion, gift certificates are usually the best choice. You can choose gift certificates from Amazon – they are always an excellent selection. You can also give free food passes for your customers at local restaurants, wine clubs, spas, movie theaters, and so on.

2.You must make sure you let your existing customers know that they are being rewarded for any referrals. At your place of business, put a cork board on the wall and list the names of people who have brought in new business on it. This way, your customers can see their names on the board each time they come to your business and this will make them feel really appreciated.

3.    When you send out business newsletters about your word of mouth campaigns, you can mention the names of people who have referred a lot of high value customers. Your newsletters reach everyone in your mailing list and you can imagine how happy your customers will be if they see their names in there. This really shows your customers that you care about them and you appreciate whatever they have done for your business.

4.If you plan to conduct a sales event, you can ask your existing customers to bring their friends along and offer them gift certificates for doing so.

5.Whenever your customers bring some new business, thank them as quickly as possible. Phone them, email them, send them a simple text message, or send them a thank-you card. Always know, you need to make sure they understand that you appreciate their effort.

This is pretty much what you need to know about word of mouth advertising campaigns. Remember – they cost so very little, they increase brand awareness tremendously, and increase your customer base. So, in order to achieve the best results, make sure you set up a marketing campaign in the immediate future.

Word of Mouth Research: A Simple Survey Can Steer Your Marketing Campaign In The Right Direction

Achieving high levels of word of mouth should be the ultimate goal of any company. This is because once your business runs off of word of mouth, you’ll begin seeing sales without having to do any costly advertising.  However, if you conduct word of mouth research, you’ll receive an additional benefit with the same amount of buzz: the opportunity to evaluate your customers’ mindset.

So, how do you go about conducting word of mouth research?  First, you must understand what it entails.Simply put, conducting word of mouth research is when you create a marketing campaign in order to understand your customers’ psychology as opposed to selling them a product.  Surveys are one of the best ways you can do this, especially if you give your customers additional compensation.

I believe that running a survey without offering any immediate compensation is a waste of everyone's time, due to the fact that they have little word of mouth value.  Instead, there’s the expectation that the customer, on their own goodwill is going to fill it out. That is not going to be the result unless they are genuinely enamored with your brand or your company's mission statement.

However, dynamics change if you give your customer money or a free product in exchange for their participation. This is really the case if the compensation is given up front, without the participant having to worry about entering a sweepstakes, for example. This is not to say that sweepstakes or free trials will not work, it would still be beneficial if your name is more well known.  But when you’re just starting out, you want to stay away from all that and give your customer more immediate satisfaction.

Anyway, after giving your customer decent compensation, you need to concentrate on the next step associated with good word of mouth research; making sure your survey questions promote an honest response.

Now, when you offer a free product for filling out a survey, there is some risk that a customer could put down anything simply to receive their gift.In order to avoid that, you could consider administering surveys that require detailed responses from the individual participating.Have the participant fill out the survey with a prompt to put into a few words why they answered in the manner that they did.Do not allow them to move forward in the survey until they’ve fully completed this portion.

In some cases, people will not want to spend time doing your survey because they feel that they have to put in too much work. So, to counteract that feeling, you’re going to have to try to award a larger incentive. You could, for example, reward the participant $10, more than the $5 that the survey would normally give.If you cannot afford to do that, you might think about selling advertising space on your survey, especially if it is online.

There are literally thousands of ways that you can market yourself, and your product well. For a long time, and continuing today, perhaps the best way to market anything is to use word of mouth.

This marketing method has been used for a long time – simply because it is one of the easiest ways to get people motivated to promote your brand or company. The first time that someone talked about a business was used was probably many years ago – the first time that anyone had anything that they wanted to sell or promote. The procedure is easy – one person telling another person what they want them to know – and that other person repeating it to someone else they know - and so on.

When word of mouth works well, it works in a very natural way. For any store in a city, for instance, this would work – as one customer would be satisfied with their service, and would tell other people that they found an amazing business. That friend will become a customer, and tell all of their friends. You can do the same for your business, whether you are online or offline, because talking about your business is something that is easy to do.

Word of mouth is also something that is free. It doesn’t cost you anything in advertising to be talked about – and it is going get your business humming if what they are saying about you is positive in nature. Therefore, this marketing method is something that you can use to your advantage in many different situations.

Be aware, there are always many things to consider when you are encouraging people to talk about your company. Something that you want to remember is that although word of mouth is free and is going to be good for you, it can also be bad. If you make a customer angry, or something has gone wrong with a your product post purchase, that customer will talk about you, same as they would normally, except that they are going to be speaking in a negative manner. The negative comments will be passed from one person to another, in the same way that positive ones would be transferred. Take some stock in it, you should be very careful with what you are doing and how those things will be working. You don't want to have any bad publicity attached to yourself at all, so be sure to monitor what individuals are saying about you. If you remember to always treat your clients well, there will be nothing but great things for them to say about your business and customer service.

You Can Never Be Too Rich or Too Viral - Word of Mouth Marketing Techniques

It’s true that not all people tell the truth, so it’s unlikely that everything you read on the web is going to be that grain of sand that’s going to be a pearl that you require. To counter that, especially when in connection with something as ethereal as word of mouth information, listed here are a number of statistic’s and sources that you (if you so desire) can check for accuracy at your leisure.

1. Family and friend recommendations beat out all others when influencing decisions when giving out word of mouth information (AdAge).

2. Visitors to a site that post commentary will typically visit a site nine times, and are twice as likely to purchase from that site than others (McKinsey and Co./Jupiter Media Metrix).

3. Consumers trust friends more than experts or celebrity endorsements (65%, 27% and 8%, respectively; Yankelovich).

4. A Nielsen worldwide study of some 26,000 users in over 40 markets reported that consumer recommendations were the most credible form of word of mouth information advertising within the 70% plus of respondents.

5. Over 116 million user generated comments were made in the U.S. alone in 2008, with an additional 82 million content creators. With the extended reach and influence of Web 2.0 and social networking, these figures are set to climb (eMarketer).

6. Social network users are three times more likely to purchase a product on the strength of recommendation from a peer rather than any form of advertising. (Jupiter Research).

7. 86% of people asked said they would trust a friend’s recommendation over an experts, with 83% saying they would trust user generated comments over a critic’s (Marketing Sherpa).

8. 66% of social networkers are more inclined to purchase because of a recommendation, as opposed to 52% that aren’t social networkers (Royal Mail home shipping tracker).

9. 81% of holiday shoppers read user generated reviews before purchasing (Nielsen Online).

10. 86% of consumers read reviews on businesses before making a purchase, with over 90% saying that they trust those reviews (Kudzu.com).

11. 49% of shoppers reviewed stated that they have made purchases on the strength of reviews. Of these 60.53% decided on the strength of user reviews; 20.48% due to comparison charts; 15.41% due to editorial reviews and comments; 3.58% due to shared shopping lists.

12. Almost two thirds (62%) of home consumers read on line user generated product reviews before purchasing (Deloitte and Touche) with the same percentage stating that they would consult sites with user reviews in order to make entertainment purchases (Marketing Sherpa).

13. 7 out of 10 people who read consumer generated reviews are more likely to share those opinions, which amplifies the impact they have (Deloitte and Touche).

14. 74% of those surveyed state they base purchasing solely on user generated reviews of their customer service experiences for a product or company (Society of New Communication Research).

As you can see, word of mouth information coming from trusted sources such as friends, consumers, etc. is the most powerful form of advertising.

There are several ways that you can use word of mouth advertising to your advantage. Word of mouth advertising is something that you can get loads of by treating your clients with respect and by giving them great customer service, they will start talking.

Word of mouth advertising is one of the most quick, cost-effective ways to gain motivated customers. It is also one of the oldest ways, which means that it has been tried and tested for a very long time. Word of mouth will allow you to make sure that you have what it takes for advertising, because it is the most easy way for people to talk about you and for others to be introduced to your company. Word of mouth advertising happens when someone says something good about you, or passes on a story about you, to someone else. This is free advertising – the cost is zero, and you are reaping the benefits of it.

There are several ways to make sure that word of mouth works well for you. The first thing that you'll want to do is to make sure that you stand apart from your competition. If you can be controversial or unique, or if you can do something that others find interesting, you'll be someone that everyone is talking about. The more that everyone talks about you, the more that they are going to see what you are all about and the more that you are going to benefit.

Another way that you can benefit from this specific is by encouraging others to spread the news about your company. You can offer them incentives for talking about you or your business, and you can offer them small prizes for doing so. Much of the time, these things known as testimonials, otherwise called referrals, are great ways to make sure that people are spreading the word about you.

The best way to encourage this method of advertising is to ensure that people know about your company, and that they have a chance to speak about. Remember that you can get a negative reputation as well, and if that happens, the word of mouth advertising that is done can actually harm you. So, its always best to provide your customers and clients with the very best that they can get, and to make sure that each experience is one that is worth talking about – so that they will talk about it!!!
